IRC Channel :)
« on: May 17, 2008, 09:11:49 PM »
We now have an official IceCave IRC Channel.

What is IRC:

"Short for Internet Relay Chat, a chat system developed by Jarkko Oikarinen in Finland in the late 1980s. IRC has become very popular as more people get connected to the Internet because it enables people connected anywhere on the Internet to join in live discussions. Unlike older chat systems, IRC is not limited to just two participants.

To join an IRC discussion, you need an IRC client and Internet access. The IRC client is a program that runs on your computer and sends and receives messages to and from an IRC server. The IRC server, in turn, is responsible for making sure that all messages are broadcast to everyone participating in a discussion. There can be many discussions going on at once; each one is assigned a unique channel. "

Info:

Server: irc.gamesurge.net
Channel: #theicecave

More info about thow to register with quakenet for kick/ban rights on irc can be found Here

How to join:

Get a proper IRC client like IceChat(free) or mIRC(pay).
In the status window type:
1) /server irc.gamesurge.net
2) /join #theicecave

Another way to join is using the web client, however if you want more advanced options the stand alone client is advised.

What commands are there:

Simply type !help for a full list of commands.

It currently links to the server itself. Admins can monitor the server and send commands to it.
The other users can monitor the chat and also can speak to the players in-game without being in the server itself. And of course you can simply chat with other members on the irc channel :)

Update you can now access the irc server without a client.
Simply go to chat in the top right menu. I'll be getting a logo for it soon.
