TTT, The Specialists Update
« on: April 27, 2010, 05:25:00 PM »
The Specialists hits TTT with a grand total of 5 new custom weapons to The Ice Cave TTT server.
I've started messing with lua yesterday and decided that a few new weapons couldn't hurt, I'm not very advanced atm so I'm sticking to modified sweps or simple weapons for the moment.  I'd like to read up on some more advanced LUA to make bigger changes to TTT. For now enjoy the five new weapons:

The Raging Bull AKA handcannon:

The raging bull is a secondary weapon which runs on rifle ammo, it does slightly less damage then the scout but with a lot more recoil and slightly less accuracy. Great back up weapon when you want to truly hurt your opponent.

Katana:

This weapon needs little introduction, the Katana is the ultimate weapon in close quarter combat. It kills in one hit if slashed in the head and takes 3 hits in the chest. The best aspect about the Katana is the panic factor when facing an opponent with a Katana in a confined space. The biggest downside of the Katana is its weight, because of this the Katana is a primary weapon and the welder can only carry a side arm for longer distances.
Secondary ability lowers the weapon to a none fighting position, useful when you don't want to threat your fellow survivors.

MP5:

Due to increased counter terrorists activities against fellow terrorist, the detectives have been armed with the mp5. The mp5 has better accuracy over the mac10 as well as more dmg and less recoil.
The mp5 is an equipment weapon and requires 1 credit to be bought.

Ak47:

"Of all the weapons in the vast soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947. More commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It'll shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars. "

Has great accuracy if shot in single shot, has a lot of recoil and is therefore advisable to use in burst or single. Furthermore it has a bigger clip size then the m16 and runs on smg ammo.

Pump shotgun:

Greatly resembles the default shotgun, it however has smaller cone (spread) and does slightly less damage. Due to its smaller spread your shells will be more likely to aim where you want them to go.

As of now, the maps do not by default support the weapons. I have however added some random weapon spawns to some existing maps which means there is a small chance a new weapon might spawn on that location. Ultimately I prefer this as it allows me to add new weapons without backtracking over maps to add them in by default and keeps weapons more spread out.
As far as I'm aware there are no issues with the weapons with the exception of the Katana which shows bodies as shot rather then stabbed, minor issue and will fix when I did some reading on LUA to change the weapon damage behaviour of it.

Weapon balance probably needs some tweaking, I've been changing them back and forth a few times but testing with bots isn't the best way to test weapons. You can also see this thread as a suggestion thread for weapon balance changes for the current new weapons.

Changelog:

Pumpshotgun reloading behaviour changed.
Pumpshotgun accuracy boosted by 2.x the amount.

Raging bull damage buffed by 5dm and reduced the sound of which you can hear them reload/draw, still hearable slightly atm. Unsure if completely fixable.

Katana attack handling redone based on crowbar code, now has lag reduction and you will no longer get the hits not registering properly. Damage to the head removed due to OP and added speed/jump boost when holding space + walking forward. Has 7 sec cool down and probably could use some nice hud in the future.

Ak47 recoil reduced.

Changelog:

Pumpshotgun infinite ammo fixed.

Attempt at changing katana lag compensation handling.
Katana jump is now crouch + jump and look into the direction where you want to go.

Added the lawgiver which is a default pistol model atm, the weapon is based on the movie Judge Dredd and has single shot, double whammy, rapid fire and shell shot. It runs on deagle ammo and does less damage in single shot then the pistol, due to its wide variation of weapon modes it should be an useful weapon. Could use feedback on this weapon.

Changelog:

Added two new pistols:

Glock 18: Notorious for its high spray and pray value. Uses pistol ammo and packs one hell of a punch at close range.

Dual Pistols (Elites): The kind of weapon no gun slinger can be without, does decent damage and high rate of fire. Due to holding two weapons in each hand you will lose some accuracy but extra damage you can do in a shorter duration more then makes up for it.

The fact that we have 6 pistols now is really useful in terms of last seen and killed by x weapon, because most likely only 1 player will have weapon x (if it's a pistol)

So I heard Britney Spears was looking for a drummer?

Dualies scrapped due to gmod not having a third person animation for them. Only way to go around this atm AFAIK is making the third person animation a single pistol.

Updated to latest TTT build:

Version 15-05-10:

- Improved time display in Haste Mode. Innocents now can't tell when deaths happen by looking at their clock, there's a label to tell you when Haste Mode is on, and some other small tweaks.

- List of kills now also appears on the bodies of non-traitors who killed people.

- Replaced DNA Sampler with the more powerful DNA Scanner:
  * Get DNA samples (eg. from dropped weapons) and hit Scan to find the current location of the player whose DNA it is.
  * DNA Scanner must be fully charged to perform a scan, and if the target is far away it drains more energy and you must wait longer to recharge.
  * Corpses carry a DNA sample of the killer, if the killer was close to the victim when shooting/stabbing. The further away, the faster the DNA sample disappears.
  * The presence of Killer DNA is shown in the body search results, including time until it decays.
  * Can only be bought once per Detective. If he dies/drops it, innocents can use it (and so can traitors!).
  * All in all, Traitors would be wise to exercise more care in what clues they leave behind for Detectives to find.

My own changelog:

-AK47 rate of fire and damage reduced.
-Lawgiver sounds added and shell shot has been removed in favour of grenade launcher. Nade Launcher does not instant kill and costs 5 bullets to use.
 * Double wammy damage improved and cone reduced
 * Rapid fire now shoots 4 rather then 3
-Katana moved to secondary weapon rather then primary, I feel the katana doesn't work as a primary weapon without some major additions to it. Also one hit kill is out of the question for the katana hence I moved it to secondary slot.

Good thing you moved the katana to second slot because the katana was not as good as let's say a shotgun. Heck it was pretty useless as primary due to the fact that it doesn't 1 hit kill.

What is the damage of lawgiver? Is it in between Deagle and pistol?

Lawgiver single shot does less damage then the pistol. Picking another fire rate however gives it an edge over the pistol.

So it has a higher fire rate and lower damage than the pistol but still has smaller clip? That's weird.

Deagle ammo for now, every firemode on the lawgiver uses a certain amount of bullets to fire once. Nade for example costs 5 deagle bullets to fire.

Updated to latest TTT version and some minor changes to the lawgiver:

Lawgiver now requires 6 bullets rather then 5 in nade mode. Explosion radius now 50 (was 60)
Lawgiver nade mode cool down doubled.
Lawgiver rapid fire cool down is now on par with the fact it shoots 4 rather then 3.
